This is Rovandio’s first painting that showcases his minimalistic style. He has lovely flow and movement to his brushstrokes with an eye for composition. My Friesian horse Douwe had an energetic style with vertical brushstrokes and messy splatters. Rovandio is more thoughtful and incorporates sideways and curved lines. It is so interestig to see how each horse’s artist style matches their personality as well. Rovandio has always been wise and focused while Douwe had a goofy, larger than life personality.

I named this piece Mermaid Queen thanks to a fan on Instagram. It really does look like a mermaid and has beautiful flow and color. When I was a child I was in love with the Disney movie The Little Mermaid. I lived in Greenville, ME and we had a beautiful place to swim on Moosehead Lake. I would pretend to be a mermaid when I wasn’t being a horse and I felt so free living in my dream world.

If someone had told me at that young age I would be painting with horses I think I would have been speechless. One of my driving motivations is to impress that inner child. To do things that would blow her mind, inspire her to reach for her dreams, no matter how many obstacles were in her path. I hope that Rovandio’s artwork inspires you to incorporate more imagination and magic into your daily life.
