Riding Background:
Sandra began her formal training at the Isaac Royal Academy of Classical Dressage when she was 13 years old. Her coach, Carolyn Rose, runs a European-style riding program that gives students the opportunity to train horses from the day they are born to the upper levels of dressage. In 2009 she graduated the Masters Program having competed to Grand Prix and training numerous horses to Fourth Level and above. It was during this training program that she earned all her rider medals from the Maine Dressage Society and her Bronze and Silver Medals from the United States Dressage Federation.
Sandra has also been a working student for FEI "C" Judge Gabriel Armando in Wellington, FL and ridden in clinics with Jodie Kelly, Kim Schissler, Heidi Herriott, Kathy Connelly, and Sarah Jane Clarke. She also had the wonderful opportunity to ride at the Escola de Equitacao de Alcainca in Portugal under the instruction of Georges Malleroni.
Art Background:
Sandra has been drawing horses ever since she was a little girl. During high school she was in the advanced placement art class where she discovered Chinese calligraphy, a style that inspired her business SandraB. Designs. She sold her clothing and gift products at equine venues such as the Equine Affaire and the Horse World Expo. Her products have been featured in prominent magazines and sold in catalogs such as Dressage Extensions and Wild Horsefeathers.
One day she was inspired to combine her two greatest passions, dressage and art, together. It took a few years to develop the idea but ‘Art on Horseback’ was born. She rides Rovandio by a 9 foot tall easel and lands her brushstrokes while using dressage movements such as collected canter, reinback, pirouettes, and piaffe. They have performed at different venues in Maine and Florida, donating the paintings that they create at the event to non-profit horse organizations. In 2017 they were invited to perform at the World Equestrian Games in Tryon, NC and they are going to perform at Equitana in 2020 at the Kentucky Horse Park.
Acting & Modeling:
Sandra has worked as an actress, a stunt rider, and a print model over the years, with and without her horses. She was cast in Taylor Swift's music video "Mine" and even made it into People Magazine from a photo taken at the shoot. She has acted in a handful of commercials including a jewelry commercial for "Hearts on Fire" (see video below), CUPromise in their "Zero is Bad" campaign (see video below), Hardy Wolfe & Downing law offices, the Vermont Lottery, and the Maine Tourism Office. In 2012 Sandra was the featured model for the "Meals in Minutes" campaign by Hannaford Supermarket that was showcased in all their stores. Sandra and Douwe worked together on the set of Indie film called Essential Realism directed by Alan Dillingham (not released). In 2014 Rovandio also joined Sandra and Douwe on another indie film called Falcyyr.
